About 15 years ago, I switched from smoking cigarettes to chewing tobacco. This was way before everyone was having such a cow about smoking and second hand smoke. I tried a few different brands at first since I didn’t know too much about chewing tobacco and eventually found the one that I liked and could stand to chew daily. Grizzly Tobacco is a fresh chewing tobacco that comes in a variety of flavors. My personal choice is the mint or wintergreen, but I can dip into the natural every now and again. The main reason I quit is that my wife hated the smell of cigarettes and would make me go stand out side, rain or shine, just to have one stupid cigarette. This got old really fast. But, I love my wife and decided to find an alternative to smoking, other than quitting. Which is my ultimate goal, just not sure when that will be. Chewing tobacco gives me the same amount of nicotine, if not more than one cigarette. I just pinch a bit out of the can and place it between my lip and gums and can do anything that I want while doing it. I keep a cup by my desk to spit into, and hide it from you know who, so I don’t have to hear it. The flavors of the tobacco are strong, yet not to over powering. I haven’t ever tried a fruity chew, but I have heard good things about them from a friend who chews too. Something about peach and apple, that keeps me away. I think I would just grab a peach or an apple if that is what I was in the mood for. The wintergreen flavor is robust and delicious. I have looked into trying the pouch wintergreen, but I am not sure, can you taste the paper of the pouch when you are using it? I would guess not, from other blogs I have read, nobody ever complains about that. Do you still spit when using the pouches? I think that is going to me the next thing I try, Grizzly Tobacco in a pouch. It may eliminate the feeling that I have tobacco stuck in my teeth every time that I chew. Which is something I constantly felt like when I first began chewing. Even though I never really had a lot in between my teeth, sometimes it just feels that way.
It’s All About the Grizzly Tobacco
May 20th, 2010Tobacco Pipe Smoking
April 2nd, 2010Grab your favourite Dr Grabow Pipes, the best smelling savory tobacco you could find, and two simple pipe accessories and lets begin our lesson. Find a comfortable spot you can relax and enjoy your smoke. It’s important for you to recollect that learning to pack, light, and smoke your pipe is something you can learn how to perfect. It’s not going to happen the first time you light it up no matter how many pipe smoking guides you read. It is something you desire experience with in order to improve, so take time and chill. As with anything in life, learn from your mistakes. Packing Your Pipe. It’s important to ensure your pipe is free of any previous ashes or condensation for a previous smoke. Run a pipe cleaner thru the stem and then blow on the stem to ensure nothing is obstructing the air passage to the bowl. I would highly suggest you turn the bowl away from your face otherwise you will finish up with a face full of dottle ( ashes and unburned tobacco ). Take away the rough quantity of tobacco you will need to fill the bowl and place it on a tissue. Ensure the tobacco is free of any clumps and therefore the moisture level of the tobacco isn’t to wet. If it is let it sit out for two mins while you take in the unpolluted air of the evening. Loosely fill the bowl with tobacco. At anytime while filling don’t press down on the tobacco with your thumb or fingers. Also don’t pinch the tobacco so firmly that you create clumps which you lost in step two. Now with your handy meddle tool press the tobacco down till its springy. The bowl should probably be around half to 3 / four of the way full. Remember the tobacco should be springy not rock-hard. Take a test draw from the stem. Is there any resistance? If so dump out the tobacco or stir it up with your pick and begin again. Otherwise fill the bowl back up and tamp it down again. Take another test draw. Again there should be little or even no resistance. If there is more resistance the breathing thru a drinking straw, dump or stir the tobacco and start again. If the tobacco still isn’t even with the top of the bowl add more tobacco and tap it down till it’s even with the top. Another test draw should yield only a little resistance. Lighting the pipe is simple. With the pipe between your lips, light your match and use it on the tobacco in a round about motion. You will need to make intensely shallow puffs on the pipe. You can most likely see the tobacco swell up or untangle in the bowl. That is fully standard and the first purpose to the burning light. This expels any extra moisture from the tobacco and prepares the tobacco for the True Light. After the fake light the tobacco won’t be at the same level – the apex of the bowl. Use your meddle to carefully compress the tobacco back to the head of the bowl. Be highly careful, here is where many beginners make their worst mistake. Relight the match and again use it on the tobacco in a rounded motion. Again a sequence of shallow puffs will be critical to re-ignite the flame. If done correctly the tobacco should not unscramble or puff up like it probably did during the fake light. If you have done everything right you should be enjoying your first pipe smoking experience. Bask in it. Like it. You will eventually get into a rhythm. If the smoke entering your mouth is hot you’re going to fast. Slow down and take long regular puffs. If your pipe goes out while between puffs don’t worry. That is’s ordinary. Just relight.
My favorite Flavored Cigar
February 9th, 2010I like flavored cigars rather than a natural flavored cigar because they’re smooth, and taste great. Flavored cigars also smell wonderful, I don’t feel like I reek of smoke after puffing on one. My favorite is CAO Flavored Cigars. In particular, the Eileen’s Dream. It is an Irish Cream flavor and the perfect smoke after a very long day, or a filling supper. My girl will even bum one from me if she runs out of cigarettes. Shesuspects they are definitely a bit strong, but after smoking ultra light cigarettes for many year, they will definitely be stronger. My friends keep making an attempt to convince me that flavored cigars aren’t for men, that they’re too sweet. They need me to switch to premium cigars, which are far more pricey and to me very plain. I like excitement and flavour and I like the way these cigars smell. So, until I try a premium cigar that I like better than the flavored, I am going to stick with what I like.
Great Cigars for Great Women
January 12th, 2010I am a woman who loves a good cigar and I am also willing to admit that I prefer a flavored cigar to the natural cigars. I don’t think there are enough women out there willing to try cigars. But if they did, I think they would be pleasantly surprized by how tasty they really are. I have a few tips for any woman who is interested in trying a cigar for the first time. The first is to always choose a cigar that smells good. If it doesn’t smell good, then it probably isn’t going to taste good either. You also want to choose a cigar that will be smooth and mild. I recommend Miami Suites Cigars. They have a few different flavors available and are mild and sweet. Another good tip would be to buy from a local tobacconist, instead of your local drug store. There they will have more knowlege and a better selection for you to choose from. A great cigar should always be smoked in a comfortable atomosphere. You want to have a pleasant experience, and if you cannot relax, you probably aren’t going to enjoy it as much. My last and most important tip would be, Do Not Inhale, you will get sick. Cigars are meant to be enjoyed for their flavors, not the nicotine. If you inhale, you will most likely make yourself nausious, so don’t do it. So, if you are a women who is interested in trying cigars for the first time, take my advise and your first cigar will not be your last.
Merely a Couple Days until the Tobacco Restriction
December 29th, 2009All Right, Saint Louis has passed a smoking ban for all public building, with only a small number exceptions. I am so tired of my constitutional rights being revoked, I am appalled. I cannot fathom why non-smokers have such a sharp opinion on what us smokers do. I understand that smoking is damaging, but I made a conscience decision when I took up smoking, alert to the fact it was not good. Just because non-smokers want me to stop, does not mean that it’s going to happen. Smoking in restaurants has been a freedom, but most restaurants include a special smoking area. If you prefer not to to inhale the smoke, don’t eat in the smoking area, you are not coerced to sit in the smoking section. And as well as the employees of these bars that argue they are distressed by second hand smoke, I don’t believe it. I worked in the restaurant business for more than 10 years, and I know that most of thepeople I worked with were smokers. Doing business with the public, if anything, initiates you to inhale. And, I have never heard any non-smoking co-worker ever protest about cigarette smoke while working in the smoking area. Putting a smoking restriction in restaurants and bars, will only save me money, because I won’t eat out after the January 1st.
All I need for Christmas: Smokes!
December 11th, 2009I have made a decision this christmas to plead for basic gifts that my wife can determine comfortably for me. My number one gift, as always, is my well-beloved cigar from drew-estate-cigars.com. My wife won’t even have to depart from our condo, she can go on the internet (I have all my favorites sites saved) and throw in the order there. As far as other gifts, she can go to the local retailer and pick something up. She argues every year that I am the most baffling guy to get gifts for. But we have been inseperable for almost 15 years! And if she doesn’t know the things I want by now, I just don’t know. I continuously say every year, “get me stogies”, I puff on 1 or 2 per day, and that adds up. I have a humidor for storing my stogies, “what’s that for?” she askes. Well my love, it’s to keep my cigars alive. So, if you get me smokes for the holiday I can keep them in that for a few months and get a cigar when I am wanting to enjoy one. Although I have to say, I was blessed with luck last year, she gave me a lighter that was ingraved with my initials. The prior year, she gave me a fishing pole, unfortunately I said I wanted to go fishing again someday. Well, I went fishing once after that, but guess what, I still puff 1-2 stogies in a day. So what do I want for the holiday this year? I want Cigars, and whatever else would just be an added pleasure.
Cigars: Wise Decency for Cigars Smokers
November 10th, 2009Choosing a cigar: The ring gauge of the cigar will give you a basic indication of how full bodied the taste is. The larger the ring size, generally means, the smoother, fuller, slower and cooler the stogie will be.
Cutting a cigar: The head of a hand rolled cigar must be cut before lighting it. You can do this with punch cutters, cigar scissors, or guillotine cutters. The guillotine is recommended for the best cut. Make sure you don’t cut the complete cap off, because it may damage your wrapper.
Premium cigar lovers are known for their admiration of food and wine. One of the best times to offer a cigar is after a meal. Other great times to indulge in your favorite cigars can be: during or after business meetings, while walking the dog, while driving to and from work or essentially just any time you’re looking to enjoy the fulfillment and relaxation catered by a handmade cigar.
Smoking a Stogie: Cigars are meant to be appreciated and savored for the feel, taste and the aroma. Puff slowly. Don’t puff to hard. If your cigar goes out, it is proper to relight it within one to two hours. Any later than that, it will taste stale.
